Margaux simultaneously juggle the launch of her brand and her job at another company. Small glimpse into the jewellery Mac Guyver’s way of working. Where do you work?  I work 4 days a week for another brand in London: Comfort Station. I am in charge of the making, the production and the studio more generally. I have a room with my bench and my desk in my flat. What is your favourite tool? I particularly love my parallel pliers (both sides open and close while remaining parallel) and my magnetic tumbler.  More generally, I am addicted to tools and materials. The right tool used the right way will always make the job a lot easier. Nothing is more frustrating than spending three times longer on a task because you don’t have the right tool. Even if it is paradoxically and strangely satisfying to achieve your goal with limited means. It…Continue Reading

Margaux Clavel, a french jewellery designer based in London, has created WWAN(1) along with working for another jewellery brand. Versatile, audacious and passionate, Margaux tells us about her background and her love for jewellery.  Could you please introduce yourself in a few words? I am Margaux Clavel and I am 27. I grew up in Paris in the 13th district. I have been living, breathing, working and designing in London for 5 years. I live in Stoke Newington with my boyfriend and Marcel the cat. How would you define your universe? Opulent, quirky, geometric but organic, bold but elegant. Where does your brand name come from? WWAN(1) stands for We Will Always Need and you can pronounce it ONE. WWAN(1) plays with the concepts of needs- what is necessary, what is unnecessary- and uniqueness (what is unique WWAN(1)’s pieces and the people wearing them). We don’t NEED jewellery pieces. However…Continue Reading
To conclude this interview, Constance Lepage gives us more details about her tastes and tells us about the difficulties and challenges when you run a business. Can you name three of your favourite designers? In jewelry, I am inspired by Aurélie Bidermann. I really like Proenza Schouler’s work in haute couture. I don’t follow many persons, I have a general look on this. And some artists? In cinema, I love Wes Anderson’s movies, it inspires me a lot. I like this type of universes a bit crazy going in every direction. I really like artists such as Tinguely, Calder, all this wave is very nice. That’s like for fashion, whether in music or in cinema, in art, I am easily entertained, I listen to any music, I watch any movie…I don’t necessarily select exhibitions I visit… Do you have favorite jewels? I don’t wear a lot of jewels but anyway…Continue Reading

Constance speaks about the options offered to designers in Lille, her essentials grippers and her choices in terms of materials to guarantee an affordable price range. Where do you work? I have a workshop boutique in the south of Lille, I am part of a designers association called Maison de Mode. In this association, there are two districts (in Roubaix and in Lille) where workshops boutiques are available. It is great because otherwise I would not be able to have my own workshop. It is very nice to start, I have been part of this association for four years. There are many options for designers in Lille like fairs, associations, workshops, etc. There are also many options in Brussels and it is very close. What is your favourite tool and how does it work? My grippers, without it, I can’t do anything. By the way, I often break it whereas…Continue Reading

Constance Lepage is a jewelry designer from Lille. Her jewels are thin, elegants and coloured but what differentiates Constance L from other brands is also her desire to offer affordable jewels. Can you please introduce yourself briefly? I am 26 years old, I am from Lille, I am verry curious, a traveller, I like to move around but, at the sime time, I always come back to Lille. I am also independant that’s why self-employment suits me very well. How would you define your creative universe? My universe is quite wide. I am not inspired by something specific. My universe is quite thin, I always use the same codes but without targeted inspiration. It is difficult to explain. It is always about thin jewels, coloured but not too much. I have multi-generational customers. I am inspired by my trips, by my relatives, it is very opened, I become imbued with…Continue Reading
